We’re officially six months into living in Mérida… and we don’t regret it for a moment.
Is it perfect? No.
The heat is intense. Certain things are more expensive. Processes can move slower than we’re used to.
But the life we’ve built here? It’s pretty close to perfect for us.
Our boys are outside more than ever. Parks, beaches, late evening walks — real childhood moments that don’t revolve around screens. We spend more time together, not because we’re trying harder, but because life here naturally makes space for it.

There’s a calm here. A rhythm. A sense of safety and community that changes how you move through your day. Neighbours talk. Families gather in the evenings. Weekends feel full without feeling frantic.
We didn’t move to escape Canada. We moved toward a different kind of life – one with more presence, more intention, and more freedom to build what matters to us.
Six months in, this isn’t vacation mode. It’s school drop-offs, grocery runs, work deadlines, and everyday responsibilities, just lived in a way that feels more aligned.
It’s not flawless. But it’s ours.
And if we had to choose again?
We’d choose this. Every single time.
